Welcome again to the new Onelung site. Sorry it's taken sooo long to get the new updates etc but hey, that's how it goes. The last Onelung site from geocities was lost due to geocities closing off it's hosting in September 2009. It's been a bit of a slow ride with the Onelung music output, mainly due to hopeless distribution and basically mismanagement from other sources. We had afew few highlights over the last couple of years, namely the track "Cinema 90" from the last album "Binary Pop Songs" 2006. This managed top 10 placings for many months on New Zealand student radio 2007. Songs used in ad placements in Sth Korea, England, France, USA and Africa. Onelung's latest album "Dark Carousel" carries on the electronic tradition with a big bunch of songs following the same twisted bent that the previous albums had. The attention to detail has been raised and the sound quality greatly improved. With some amazing software available now, sound has become a tool that can be twisted and wiggidy wigged to the desired outcome. Onelung's robust sound palette is in evidence with this new album (going through 1000's of samples to find the perfect tone), carving out a style which has lashings of downtempo/funk/nu jazz/broken beat and lounge influences. The electronic music scene in New Zealand has fallen away over the last couple of years due mainly to the resurgence of rawk and roll, which has scene mainly local bands trying to emulate Australian and American rock music. Hip hop is still big here, but mainly tied in to the Maori and Pacific influences. Acoustic and singer songwriter styles are also big sellers as well. Long gone are the days where New Zealand was influencing the world with it's unique sound. Snake Salvador I have also been working with a pal of mine, Darryl Hocking, under the name Snake Salvador. Formed in 2001 we are ready to release our 2nd album titled "Ultra Classic". Our first album entitled "Live at the Oyster Bar" was released quietly and has been boiling under in the charts for years now. A friend of mine wrote this about Snake Salvador ... "Evocative of endless nights and long, lazy days, Snake Salvador effortlessly blend low-fi sampled soul and understated funk to produce a style that redefines cool. With intriguing hints of gospel and jazz Snake Salvador has created a sound that is undisputed chill-out". Say no more. If you want to listen to some tracks, click here. Anyways, I hope you spend a bit of time having a nosey around, download the back catalogue and watch a few videos as well. Please also visit my other band's site www.snakesalvador.com and see whats happening in the world of nu jazz All the best kevmo |
